Video Hunter (myvideohunter.com) is a free tool that downloads videos from X (Twitter), Reddit and Bluesky. This page explains what information is processed when you use it.
What we do not collect
- Downloading a video never requires an account: you can use the downloader without telling us anything.
- We do not store the videos you download. They are streamed from the platform's own content delivery network.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not show your email address to anyone.
What is processed
- Server and CDN logs. Our hosting and content delivery provider records standard request data: IP address, browser type, the page requested and timestamps. This is used to operate the service and to detect abuse.
- The links you submit. When you paste a link, it is sent to our API so the video can be resolved. The resolved page is stored so the same link can be served again; it contains the post's text, thumbnail and download URLs, not any information about you.
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate location, device type). It sets cookies and receives your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google AdSense. Advertising on this site is served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ad Settings or at aboutads.info.
If you sign in (optional)
Signing in is optional and only adds two things: keeping videos in folders, and posting in the chat on a video page. Accounts are held by Amazon Cognito. If you sign in with an email address you create a password there; if you sign in with Google we receive your email address and your name from Google. We never see or store your password.
When you are signed in we store, against an internal account identifier:
- Your folders and saved videos. A folder name, and the identifier of each video you saved. The video itself is not copied.
- Your nickname. A nickname is generated for you, and it is the only name shown in chat. It is not derived from your email address, and you can change it at any time.
- Your chat messages , stored with that nickname and no other name.
- Your block list , if you block an account in chat.
Chat
The chat room on a video page is public: anyone visiting that page can read it, whether or not they have an account. Posting requires signing in. Messages are stored for up to 30 days and are then deleted automatically, along with the nickname on them. Please do not post personal information: anything you write can be read by anyone, and by us when a message is reported.
You can delete your own messages, report a message, or block an account. Reported messages are kept for review for up to 90 days so that we can act on abuse, which is required to keep advertising on these pages. Deleting your account deletes the reports you filed with it.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and Google AdSense. You can block or delete them in your browser settings; the downloader itself works without cookies.
If you sign in, your session is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie. Signing out, or clearing site data, removes it.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK (GDPR) or in California (CCPA), you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can object to processing. You can delete your own account, and everything held against it, from the Your library page: the folders, the saved videos, your chat messages and your block list go with it. If you would rather we did it, contact us using the details below. Requests about analytics and advertising data relate to data controlled by Google; we will help where we can.
Children
This service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
